Project

Electrospinning of porous composite materials for hydrogen storage

The integration of carbons and metal-organic frameworks into a storage system is challenging since these materials are available as loose powders.  The overall aim of the project is to synthesise composite fibres by encapsulating these powdered materials in polyacrylonitrile via electrospinning and investigate the hydrogen adsorption of the pristine and composite materials.

Supervisors: Dr Nicholas Musyoka (CSIR), Dr Henrietta Langmi (CSIR) and Prof Leslie Petrik (University of the Western Cape)
