Project
Developing membrane rupture tests for high-pressure electrochemical hydrogen devices
Supervisor
Durability and cost are the main characteristics preventing deployment of PEM technologies at a large scale. Fundamental understanding of degradation and mechanical failure of ionomer membranes are required to help reduce membrane failure. A system reproducing the operational conditions of functioning electrochemical equipment will be designed. Static- & accelerated membrane rupture tests, performed under these conditions, will give a better understanding on the mechanical degradation of PEM’s and how to improve the durability thereof.
