STAFF DETAILS

Dr Louise Botha

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Louise matriculated from Stutterheim High School in 2007 before enrolling at the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus) where she completed her higher education. She continued her post graduate studies focusing on computational modelling which focused on formulating a computer program, using MATLAB, to aid in the calculation of Tolman cone angles for Grubbs-2 catalysts. Thereafter, she completed a PhD in solid state chemistry which focused on investigating Pt-Ni alloys as an alternative electrocatalyst for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) with the aid of Materials Studio and VASP (Vienna ab initio simulation package). She also spend six months as an PhD exchange student at Cardiff University (Wales) where she published a paper.

Project description:

The aim of the project is to use computational modelling to investigate alloys as potential catalytic materials for hydrogen energy-related applications.
